The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced a record-breaking financial package for domestic football, unveiling substantial increases in prize money and club support ahead of the 2025/26 league season. The move, approved during the LFA Executive Committee meeting chaired by President Mustapha I. Raji on August 8, marks the single biggest investment in Liberian football in recent years.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, FA President, Mustapaha Raji, disclosed that under the new structure, the champions of the LFA First Division will see their winnings rise by 50 percent, taking home US$30,000. Just four seasons ago, the top prize stood at the equivalent of US$8,420, before increasing to US$20,000 in the 2021/22 season.

The latest increase is being hailed as a transformative step in strengthening the financial appeal of Liberia’s top league and giving clubs more resources to invest in players, facilities, and grassroots programs.

The Women’s Upper Division has also been given a historic lift, with champions set to receive US$25,000—a 25 percent jump from US$20,000 in 2021/22. The change represents a dramatic rise from the modest US$3,070 awarded in 2020/21 and US$2,890 in 2018/19, signaling a clear commitment to elevating women’s football to new heights.

In addition to prize money, operational support for women’s clubs is also on the rise. Subventions to Upper Women’s Division teams will now total US$7,500 per season, up from US$6,000 in 2022 and nearly double the amount provided in 2019. The increase, made possible through the CAF Impact Fund, is expected to ease the financial burden on clubs and help them improve their competitiveness on the field.

The LFA Cup has also undergone a major financial overhaul. For the first time, prize money for the men’s and women’s categories has been synchronized, with both winners set to receive US$10,000 each. Previously, the women’s winners earned L$1 million while the men’s winners took home L$1.5 million—a gap the new policy closes entirely.

LFA President Mustapha I. Raji described the changes as a strategic move to build a stronger football economy in Liberia. “This is about more than rewarding champions—it’s about creating the right conditions for our clubs to grow and for our leagues to gain the prestige they deserve,” he said.

With the new season approaching, the promise of bigger rewards is expected to inject fresh energy and ambition into Liberian football, setting the stage for the most competitive campaigns yet.
